Puppies- cute, wriggly, curious, face licking puppies. There is nothing that can melt a heart more quickly than a puppy. But what do you do when your puppy goes beyond melting your heart and begins mutilating your things with his teeth? Luckily, puppies are highly trainable, and just like house breaking, puppy chewing can be addressed easily and quickly. Here are five easy steps to help your favorite pet lick his bad habit!
2. Carry around something that makes a loud noise. When training your puppy, you will have to train her what TO do as well as what NOT to do. Saying "No" in a firm voice and then making a loud noise (like newspaper crinkling) can teach your puppy to associate the word "No" with that noise they don't like. Do this anytime you find your puppy chewing something he shouldn't be.
3. Give your puppy lots of appropriate items to chew. Flavored chew toys and stuffed animals are always popular. Never give your puppy a toy that looks like another item you don't want them chewing.
4. Bitter apple sprays. Spraying bitter apple on frequently chewed items will discourage your puppy from chewing forbidden objects. It will not harm your puppy.
5. Enroll the puppy in obedience training. Not just a tool for your puppy, obedience training will also help you learn how to effectively manage your puppy's behavior without sacrificing the love!
